ISCRR’s Dr. Sophie Pointer recently presented at the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine (ANZSOM)’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Perth. We’re delighted to announce that her paper “Spinal Cord Stimulators: Putting the ‘evidence’ into evidence-based practice” won the David Goddard Best Paper Award!

Using the information gathered in an Evidence Review of the clinical effectiveness of Spinal Cord Stimulators (SCS) for persistent pain, Dr. Pointer demonstrated how ISCRR contributes to evidence-based decision-making at WorkSafe Victoria.

The results of the evidence review suggested that SCS implants for persistent pain are somewhat clinically effective in the short and medium term, but evidence is lacking on the long-term outcomes for patients. ISCRR’s impact tracking identified that the research informed and validated WorkSafe’s evidence-based decision model, working towards future impacts of reducing unnecessary procedures and ensuring good outcomes for injured workers.
