On December 9, we launched our new ISCRR Learning Series – regular educational webinars from ISCRR, and our extensive researcher network. For our first session, Assoc. Prof. Sharon Newnam (Associate Director, Monash University Accident Research Centre) discussed how systems thinking can prevent workplace injuries.
Through the Patient Handling Injuries Review of Systems (PHIRES) project, it was demonstrated that systems thinking can be applied to hospital environments, with this process guiding manual handling coordinators to more accurately assess risks.
This work led to the development of the STIR Accident Investigation Toolkit for investigating injuries in the workplace. Associate Professor Newnam is currently recruiting participants to pilot this toolkit from health services and aged care facilities. Information on how to participate can be found on this flyer.
The session was well received and has set an ambitious benchmark for future sessions. A recording of this session is now available to view via ISCRR’s Vimeo channel.
The next ISCRR Learning Series session will be held on February 3, 2022 featuring ISCRR researcher Dr Sarah Oxford on the topic of Program Logic. You can gain an introduction to this topic by reading her blog article. Registrations for this webinar can be made here.
